PortWise launches latest version PortWise 4.7

PortWise recently announced the release of PortWise 4.7, the latest version of its award-winning Identity and Access Management platform. PortWise 4.7 is a comprehensive solution for providing secure application access and strong user authentication and the focus for this release has been to provide even more options for strong user authentication, end-point security, and Single Sign-on.

PortWise 4.7 provides a framework for ticket based logon (Ticket SSO) using web services (SOAP) for identity federation and single sign-on to web applications. This feature complements PortWise’s other inter-domain Single Sign-On and Identity Federation options, such as SAML and ADFS. Ticket SSO can be used for both internal web applications as well as for SSO to SaaS applications, such as SalesForce. PortWise 4.7 has also extended its End-Point Security (EPS) assessment framework to include support for Microsoft Windows Security Center. With PortWise EPS it is now possible to query the Windows Security Center to determine the security status of the end-user device, with regards to installed anti-virus software, client firewall settings and Windows Update, before allowing the device access to internal resources. With the Windows Security Center EPS plug-in, it is easier than ever to keep your end-point security assessment policy up-to-date.

With PortWise 4.7, users can now securely synchronize their Microsoft Outlook e-mail, calendar and contacts to their PCs and handheld devices, without installing or downloading any proprietary VPN client software. The unique device-lock mechanism in PortWise provides an additional layer of security in combination with user authentication.

Doctor Web released Dr.Web for Windows 5.0

Doctor Web recently announced the release of Dr.Web for Windows Vista. Dr.Web for Windows 5.0 is very good at protecting itself and resisting attacks of malware. Dr.Web SelfPROtect controls access and modification of files, processes, windows and keys of the Windows Registry related to the application. The self-protection module is installed as a driver that can neither be stopped nor unloaded before a system is rebooted.

The new feature of Dr.Web 5.0 called FLY-CODE is a universal decompression technology that allows detecting viruses disguised by means of packers unknown to Dr.Web. The anti-virus uses special entries in its database and heuristic analyzer to suggest if a packed file contains malicious code.

Origins Tracing is a unique non-signature detection technology that has also been brought to a new level in Dr.Web 5.0. Dr.Web for Windows is one of the few anti-viruses that can detect and neutralize viruses that feature rootkit technologies. Capabilities of an anti-virus engine to decompress archives and depth of scan it can perform affect the quality of detection. Dr.Web can check archived files at any nesting level. Even if a malicious program has been compressed several times using various archiver programs, Dr.Web shall detect it and disarm. Dr.Web for Windows 5.0 has become even faster. Optimization and introduction of new technologies gave a significant boost of speed to the scanning process. Now the scanner checks RAM, boot sectors and files on hard drives thirty percent faster.

Most advanced version of GFI LANguard to date released

Recently released GFI LANguard allows administrators to scan, detect, assess and rectify vulnerabilities on their network and to secure it with minimal administrative effort. The latest version builds on an extensive feature set to make it easier for users to manage network scans, install patches and get a complete picture of the security set-up on their network.

GFI LANguard’s auditing function tells administrators what they need to know about their network by retrieving hardware information on memory, processors, display adapters, storage devices, motherboard details, printers, and so on. Using baseline comparisons they can now check whether any hardware was added / removed since last scan. In version 9, executive reports are now available directly from within GFI LANguard.

The new version of GFI LANguard extends the products-scanning capabilities and now it is possible to identify and report on unauthorized software installations, e.g. peer-to-peer programs. The administrator can now also configure GFI LANguard to uninstall these applications whenever they are detected on the network.

The user interface has been redesigned to make it easier to access the main functions of vulnerability management, and in version 9 the administrator is guided through the remediation process when a problem has been identified. A new dashboard not only provides a summary of the work flow during scans but also gives an estimate of the time required to complete the scan.
