Kaspersky Mobile Security 8.0 is released

Kaspersky Lab announces the release of Kaspersky Mobile Security 8.0, designed to protect smartphones from all types of IT threats as well as confidential data leaks from lost or stolen devices.

The Anti-theft module of Kaspersky Mobile Security 8.0 makes it possible for the owner of a lost or stolen smartphone to remotely block access to or completely wipe the memory of the device by simply sending a codeword via SMS to his/her number. If the SIM card is removed from a lost or stolen phone, the SIM Watch module in Kaspersky Mobile Security 8.0 sends a hidden message notifying the owner of the new number. This function ensures the owner can delete data from or block the smartphone no matter what the circumstances. Moreover, law enforcement agencies can use the new number to track down the stolen device and return it to its rightful owner.

The parental control component—new to Kaspersky Mobile Security 8.0—enables parents to restrict the sending and receiving of messages to a child's phone (e.g., premium rate numbers, adult content services, etc.). The solution's SMS Find function also allows parents to locate their children if their smartphones have GPS.

The integrated firewall in Kaspersky Mobile Security 8.0 also prevents attacks by hackers and mobile worms that spread via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections. The new Kaspersky Lab application offering protection for smartphones was developed with all the compatibility requirements for Symbian OS 9.1, 9.2, 9.3 and Windows Mobile 5.0, 6.0, 6.1 in mind.

Trend Micro DLP solution management simplified

Trend Micro unveiled a new release of its data loss prevention solution, LeakProof 5.0, with added features and benefits designed to reduce the complexity and cost often associated with the discovery, monitoring and blocking of sensitive data.

LeakProof protects sensitive information such as customer and employee data, as well as intellectual property by monitoring and preventing information leaks across multiple threat vectors. Available in two versions, LeakProof Standard helps organizations comply with regulatory mandates by securing employee and customer data. LeakProof Advanced offers the same protection plus advanced DataDNA fingerprinting to secure intellectual property and trade secrets.

The LeakProof fingerprinting method delivers accuracy and virtually zero false positives, allowing enterprises to search a fingerprint database of millions of records in order to determine instantly if there is a match with the content. It's small enough to run even on laptops without eating up memory, or causing slowdown. In addition, Trend Micro's character-based technology extracts fingerprints from any language. Unlike other solutions where the fingerprint engines must understand the language in order to create fingerprints, the LeakProof technology is language-independent.
