Comodo Makes Secure Email Certificate Management Easy |
Comodo makes the use and management of secure email easy. Unless email is encrypted, anyone with access can read, and potentially change, its content or impersonate the true author. Encrypted email is generally exchanged after the recipients first share their digital certificates, each of which contains a public key. This allows encrypted content to be created and then read only by the certificate owner. The message decryption process uses a "private key" that only the intended recipient holds.
If an entire organization regularly sends encrypted email, hundreds or thousands of secure email certificates, one for each employee or email address, may be required. To simplify the management of this complex task, Comodo's Certificate Manager can be used to deploy and administer all types of digital certificates used by an organization. Comodo's secure and accredited PKI systems and Certificate Manager help thousands of organizations to simplify their digital certificate administration and needs.

FACEBOOK PHISHING ATTACKS CONTINUE |
Facebook attacks are rife again, with cybercriminals looking to lure trusting Facebook users to fake sites, via phishing emails, and obtain personal login data for their own financial gain. Since the beginning of May, Symantec has observed a new wave of phishing attacks on Facebook users and it seems these attacks are set to continue with a current method of attack that targets a victim’s Facebook account having been observed by Symantec this week.
Phishing attackers send a message to a victim’s Facebook ‘inbox’, as well as an email notification with the subject ‘Hello’ or ‘Hi’. The email appears to have come from the victim’s friend and includes text asking the user to visit a malicious and fake Facebook login page, where the attacker will then steal the user’s login credentials to launch future attacks.
Io avoid inadvertently sending malicious messages to their trusted circle of Facebook friends, always maintain a level of caution around any messages from within a website or that appear to be sent by a website. If a user clicks on a link, double-check the actual domain that is shown at the top of the page. It’s best practice to type the direct Web address directly into your address bar rather than rely upon links from a message. Also double check you’ve arrived at your destination. When clicking over to Facebook (or any site) make a habit of looking at what appears in the address line. You might not always be able to spot a fake site but in the case of this particular scam, it’s obviously not www.facebook.com. Also be suspicious of requests to enter your account name and password.

Check Point Protects the Enterprise Against Nine Ball Attack |
Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. announced that users of Check Point Endpoint Security are protected against Nine Ball, a multi-layered Web browser attack targeting legitimate Web sites to redirect users to malicious sites owned by the attacker. Check Point Endpoint Security antivirus capabilities protect enterprise desktops and laptops against the malicious programs downloaded through the Nine Ball exploit, preventing the attacker from gaining access to proprietary data. The antivirus feature removes the malicious programs currently delivered through Nine Ball.
The Nine Ball attack first works by infecting a legitimate Web site, and then redirects the visiting victim to a malicious site owned by the attacker. The compromised Website, loaded with malware, checks for vulnerabilities in the browser, Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC), AOL Super Buddy, Adobe or QuickTime software on the user’s desktop, making the victim susceptible to a drive-by-download attempt. If successful, the attack will download a Trojan with a keylogger component used to log keystrokes. Anything the victim types could be monitored and used to commit data theft, such as stealing customer data, corporate credit card numbers or passwords.

CA SPF 100 Program Offers IAM Migration Deal for Sun Customers |
Sparked by industry consolidation and increased interest in CA’s Security Management solutions, CA has created a program to migrate Sun Microsystems customers to CA Identity and Access Management (IAM) products.
“CA SPF 100” allows Sun customers to trade their Sun product licenses for equivalent licenses of CA Identity Manager, CA Role & Compliance Manager or CA SiteMinder—essentially a 100 percent discount on the license fee. This program, which runs until March 31, 2010, also applies to Oracle customers2 who are interested in switching to CA IAM solutions. Under this program, customers of the Sun and Oracle products shall receive CA licenses for the same number of authorized users of the Sun or Oracle products as of the date of the CA product migration license transaction. The only cost to the customer will be the charge of standard annual maintenance for the new CA products to ensure support going forward.
Customers taking advantage of this offer can also benefit from CA’s optional Rapid Implementation service offerings to help accelerate the migration to CA’s solutions. These services are designed to help customers who purchase them see value from their security investment in as little as 60 to 90 days, and they include CA training from CA Education to help customers quickly take advantage of all the products’ capabilities.

Symantec Unveils “Quorum” |
Symantec Corp unveiled Norton Internet Security 2010 and Norton AntiVirus 2010 betas, which feature new reputation-based security technologies that tackle undiscovered malware and today’s toughest threats head-on. The upcoming versions of Norton products mark a significant shift in the way the global leader in security software will protect computer users from cyber crime. This new protection model, codenamed “Quorum” will be introduced to the mass market for the first time with the official product launch expected in fall 2009.
Similar to the auto industry recognizing the need for a significant shift to more fuel efficient vehicles, Symantec believes the security industry demands a similar “rethinking” of the traditional approach. With the 2010 Norton products, Symantec will introduce “Quorum”, the codename for a new protection system based not only on the traditional “fuel” of malware signatures but also on the new “fuel” of reputation with an intelligent control system using each when necessary.
The new protection model of Norton 2010 additionally extends to both AntiSpam and Parental Controls. AntiSpam features a new engine from Symantec Brightmail to bring enterprise-class protection to consumer inboxes. The new AntiSpam feature offers dramatic effectiveness improvements with no time-consuming “training”, working from time-tested heuristics and cloud-based signatures.
These beta products are available for free public download now at:

FaceTime's Web and IM Security Solutions Now Available for Virtualized Environments |
FaceTime Communications announced that its Unified Security Gateway version 2.2 (USG 2.2) now supports VMWare to enable virtual server deployment. Deploying USG 2.2 on a virtual server provides a higher return on investment for existing virtual environments, eliminates the time and cost associated with on-site equipment installation and further reduces the environmental footprint of the IT infrastructure.
FaceTime's Unified Security Gateway (USG) is a secure Web gateway purpose-built for the new Internet to provide a single point of control for preventing malware, controlling Web 2.0 applications and managing information leakage in corporate networks. The new USG gives IT managers visibility and control for over 2,100 Web 2.0 and real-time applications in use by employees.
Because the USG provides consolidated policy management and reporting at the user and group level, a single VM server can be configured to span multiple network locations to provide a comprehensive Web and unified communications security solution with centralized management and control. This creates a low cost but robust solution for virtualized branch offices.

Popular short URL service hacked and millions redirected |
IT security and control firm Sophos is advising computer users to be wary of shortened URLs and to consider running a plug-in that will expand links before clicking on them. The warning follows news that Cligs, recently ranked as the fourth most popular URL shortening service on Twitter, has been hacked and on Sunday was redirecting millions of cli.gs links to a story about Twitter hashtags by blogger Kevin Sablan of the Orange County Register.
Sophos experts note that URL shortening services like TinyURL, bit.ly and is.gd have increasingly become part of many computer users' everyday lives with the surge in popularity of micro-blogging websites like Twitter. Sablan noticed the unexpected rise in traffic on Monday morning and has subsequently blogged about the experience of having 2.2 million links temporarily pointing to his blog post. A statement on the Cligs website suggests that a security vulnerability in its edit functionality allowed a malicious hacker to change the destination of millions of shortened URLs. The company also admitted that it hasn't been getting daily backups since early May.
