Tata Communications announced it has been positioned by industry analyst firm Gartner, Inc. in the Challengers quadrant of its “Magic Quadrant for Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs) in North America” report. The Magic Quadrant evaluates MSSPs such as Tata Communications on completeness of vision and ability to execute, and uses selection criteria based on service and product capabilities and other factors.

BitDefender announced the availability of many of its most popular security solutions as free editions, available for download. Among these are BitDefender Free Edition, an on-demand virus scanner, BitDefender Anti-Phishing Free Edition, and BitDefender Chat Encryption.
BitDefender Free Edition is an on-demand virus scanner and does not offer real-time protection against viruses or other malware. BitDefender Free Edition is best used in a system recovery or forensics role. If a user plans to employ an "always-on" Internet connection, BitDefender advises using a more complex antivirus solution such as BitDefender Antivirus 2009, BitDefender Internet Security 2009 or BitDefender Total Security 2009.

| McAfee to acquire Solidcore Systems |
McAfee announced a definitive agreement to acquire privately owned Solidcore Systems, Inc. for approximately $33 million in cash up front and with an earn-out of up to an additional $14 million if certain performance targets are met. Solidcore is a leading provider of dynamic whitelisting technology that controls and protects the applications installed on a computer, resulting in improved IT compliance, security and availability.
Solidcore’s strong foot-hold in the embedded device market will help McAfee significantly expand its reach to include security for automated teller machines (ATMs), point of sale (POS) systems, multifunction printers (MFPs), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, mobile and other embedded devices. Solidcore's dynamic application whitelisting, combined with McAfee blacklisting/graylisting capabilities, will give customers a single security platform for dynamic application control across the enterprise.
McAfee will also strengthen its virtualization security offering with Solidcore’s capabilities for locking down virtual environments, which includes VMware Hypervisor and Microsoft Hyper-V virtual environments. This, combined with automatic compliance checking, will provide customers with a secure virtualization infrastructure.
