NETGEAR offers gigabit firewall with DMZ for SMB
NETGEAR announced the availability of the NETGEAR ProSafe 8-Port VPN Firewall (FVS318G), a compact, affordable VPN firewall that provides reliable, business-class network security, remote access and Internet access for small businesses with as many as 10 users. Providing IPsec VPN for secure remote connections and firewall functions to protect small business networks from hackers, the FVS318G offers peace of mind and security while also enabling fast networking by offering eight gigabit ports, one gigabit WAN port, and up to 25 megabit per second broadband throughput. Unique for its price point, the FVS318G also features a software-configurable hardware DMZ port to provide for server and other externally facing connections.
Featuring a software-configurable DMZ port often found only on higher-end firewalls, the FVS318G is ideal for small businesses that need externally facing network resources like a Web server but have strict internal LAN security requirements. The DMZ port can be activated or deactivated using the user-friendly GUI and adds an additional layer of security to an organization's Local Area Network (LAN); an external attacker only has access to the external-facing equipment in the DMZ, rather than the whole of the network.
Designed for the small business, the FVS318G is a perfect solution for organizations that need more advanced protection than that offered by consumer-focused firewalls, but that also require tools available at a lower price point than units designed for the medium-sized business. This high-quality, highly stable unit features eight gigabit LAN ports and one gigabit WAN port to allow for speedy and secure connections at a rate of up to 25 megabits, meaning that security comes at no cost to end-user connection speed. RFC compliant IPSec VPN tunnels enable as many as five client-based remote access VPN tunnels to connect branch offices securely. Based on Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI), the 8-Port VPN Firewall delivers fast, reliable security controls to small businesses and their remote offices.

Comodo offers SaaS vulnerability scanning for internal networks
Comodo introduces vulnerability scanning for internal networks in the cloud. This innovation is available with the newest release of its product HackerGuardian. Merchants who accept payment cards such as credit cards are required to scan their networks at certain periods, checking for breaches in security.
Previously, internal network scans required dedicated hardware, run by an onsite employee.
With HackerGuardian, businesses can now run remote scans of their internal and external networks using the same software. A lightweight bootable agent installed on one of the local network nodes can be activated by an employee who may be located in another state, or even on another continent.
Once installed and configured, this Agent will establish a secure connection to a HackerGuardian Access server which will in turn establish a secure communication channel (connection) to a HackerGuardian scanning server. The scanning server will then be able to connect to and run scans on the local computers located at the IP addresses that have been specified in the 'LAN Devices' area of the HackerGuardian interface. The Agent software is available as an ISO image (to create a Live CD) or as files (to create a Live USB stick). The scans can be run directly by booting the device through either the Live CD or the Live USB stick.

Barracuda releases Link Balancer firmware release 1.2
Barracuda Networks announced Barracuda Link Balancer firmware release 1.2, which provides failover and load balancing for inbound traffic. Organizations can now provide redundant Internet links to reach Web servers hosted on their network. Using Authoritative DNS services, if a link goes down requests to the Web servers are transparently serviced through the next available active link.
Administrators can configure DNS records on the Barracuda Link Balancer that detail how--or to which IP addresses--requests to domains hosted behind the link balancer should be resolved. When a user on the Internet makes a request for a Web site, the Barracuda Link Balancer will act as the authoritative DNS resolver and resolve the domain name to the IP address of the appropriate WAN interface.
By adding inbound link balancing through Authoritative DNS services, the Barracuda Link Balancer can be effectively used to provide reliability and bandwidth aggregation for Internet traffic in both directions. Organizations can now provide better service to users accessing the Internet from within the network as well as to customers accessing services within their network from the Internet. In addition to feature enhancements, Barracuda Networks has also lowered the pricing of all Barracuda Link Balancer models.

TippingPoint introduces IPS for SME
TippingPoint introduced two new intrusion prevention systems (IPS) designed to secure network traffic for small and medium enterprises. The TippingPoint 110 and TippingPoint 330 provide ideal security for organizations with remote or branch offices as well as managed security service providers (MSSPs) focused on delivering dedicated protection services for their customers’ assets.
“Many small to medium organizations and large enterprises with numerous branch offices are moving toward securing their network environments with fewer resources,” said Robert Ayoub, senior research analyst at Frost & Sullivan. “Managed security service providers are in a prime position to offer dedicated intrusion prevention services and risk management capabilities to organizations that lack or are downsizing their inhouse security resources.”
Both the TippingPoint 110 and TippingPoint 330 provide comprehensive traffic inspection and filtering using TippingPoint’s Digital Vaccine® service to identify and block security threats before they impact the network. Additionally, both products can be managed locally or by using the TippingPoint Security Management System (SMS) for more robust management and reporting options.
